Crest Voland is a charming old village located on a natural sunny terrace above the Arly gorge, facing the Aravis chain with the Beaufortain massif behind. Unlike most French resorts it is built of largely chalet style buildings, giving a traditional ambience, centred on the old church. Although the large ski area, linked to neighbouring les Saises and close to Chamonix, offers "somethinmg for everyone", there is a laid-back family oriented atmosphere and cross country skiing in the beautiful, natural, protected area is a major part of the winter sports offering here. The resort gained its first lift in 1951 and has grown steadily ever since, making the link to Les Saises in 1985 to create the huge 'Espace Crystal' ski region.
Crest Voland is closer to major international airports than many resorts. Geneva is only 70 km (43 miles) away; smaller Chambéry 80 km (50 miles) or Lyon-St Exupéry airport 150 km (93 miles). Drivers arriving my road on the A40 Motorway should take the Sallanches exit in the direction of Megève - Crest-Voland for 25 km (17 miles); or from the A43 Motorway take the Albertville exit heading for direction Ugine - Crest-Voland 25 km (17 miles) By train use the Albertville station from where a coach service provides a connection to the resort between the main trains, or take a taxi the 25km (17 miles) up to Crest Voland. There are direct trains from Paris, Nantes, Strasbourg and others. TGV from Paris takes three hours, 40 minutes.
